In a career-defining moment, British experimental artist FKA twigs secured her first-ever Grammy Award on Sunday, February 1, 2026. Taking home the trophy for Best Dance/Electronic Album for her critically acclaimed work Eusexua, the win marks a milestone for an artist who has spent a decade pushing the boundaries of sound and movement. Twigs is now only the second Black woman to win in this category, following Beyoncé’s win for Renaissance in 2023.

Twigs’ journey to the Grammy stage has been defined by physical and emotional strength after a battle with benign uterine fibroid tumors. According to Vogue, in 2017, she underwent a laparoscopic surgery to remove six of these tumors that can cause debilitating symptoms. She later described the experience to her fans as “a fruit bowl of pain every day,” revealing the scale of the growths as two the size of apples, three the size of kiwis, and a few the size of strawberries.

At the time, the singer admitted that the ordeal “knocked her confidence as a woman” and made her doubt if her body would ever feel the same. Uterine fibroids, which affect a significant percentage of women, particularly Black women, can cause debilitating symptoms such as heavy bleeding, pelvic pain, and fertility issues. Her openness about the surgery has since made her a symbol of hope for others suffering in silence.
