Fibroid Treatment in Georgia
If you’re struggling with uterine fibroids symptoms, you may feel like debilitating pain, a diminished sex life, heavy menstrual bleeding, and low energy levels have become part of your daily life. The good news is that there’s a minimally invasive fibroid treatment in Georgia available. Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE) — an effective, low-risk, non-surgical procedure — can help you get back to normal activity levels.
A uterine fibroid, also known as a leiomyoma, is a common type of non-cancerous tumor that can appear in or on the uterus. Fibroids may grow as a single tumor, or as multiple ones. They range in size from that of a tiny seed to as large as a melon — with the largest ones weighing over twenty pounds. Although uterine fibroids do not spread to other regions of the body, they do have the potential to harm surrounding organs, negatively impact fertility, and cause unwanted symptoms.
There are four types of uterine fibroids, classified by location within the uterus:
- Intramural fibroids
- Subserosal fibroids
- Pedunculated fibroids
- Submucosal fibroids
The type, size, location, and number of fibroids present can affect which symptoms present, as well as the severity. Although not everyone with fibroids experiences symptoms, possible symptoms of fibroids include:
- Heavy or prolonged menstruation
- Anemia-induced fatigue
- Pelvic or lower back pain
- Constipation
- Protruding abdomen or belly
- Frequent urination
- Painful sexual intercourse
- Severe cramps or pelvic pressure

The majority of women will be affected by uterine fibroids by the time they reach age 50. Despite the prevalence of uterine fibroids, only about half of women believe they are at risk. Although there is a range of available fibroid treatment in Georgia, many patients believe that hysterectomy, the complete surgical removal of the uterus, is the only treatment option. Our experts at USA Fibroid Centers want you to know about the unique, effective, non-surgical treatment option that can preserve your uterus and ovaries, eliminate symptoms, and quickly get you back to living life to its fullest.

The UFE procedure takes between 30 and 45 minutes. It does not require general anaesthesia, although it is performed under light sedation so you’ll be comfortable and calm throughout. During UFE:
- Through a small incision in the skin of the upper thigh, a catheter is guided via ultrasound imaging to the vessels leading to the fibroids.
- Small particles are injected through the catheter to block the blood flow leading to the fibroids.
- Once blood flow is cut off, the fibroids should shrink and disappear.
- Your incision requires no stitches, only a small bandage.
You should be able to return to your normal, daily activities within one to two weeks. Your ovaries and uterus remain intact, and this treatment is low-risk compared to hysterectomy and myomectomy procedures.
