Kym Lee

Living in the shadows of a medical condition can be isolating, but Kym Lee-King is determined to bring uterine fibroids into the light. The Prince George’s County resident and USA Fibroid Centers Ambassador recently appeared on NBC4 Washington to share a story that is as harrowing as it is hopeful.

For Lee-King, the mission is simple: ensure that no other woman feels the need to “suffer in silence.”

A Life-Changing Wake-Up Call

Diagnosed in 2014, Lee-King admitted that she initially let embarrassment dictate her health. She ignored her symptoms and diagnosis for three years, a delay that culminated in a terrifying emergency where her husband found her in a pool of blood. By the time she sought help, her fibroids had grown from the size of peas to the size of melons.

“I was bleeding profusely, and that’s what happens with so many women,” she told News4. “I suffered in silence.”

Advocacy Beyond the Screen

As an ambassador for USA Fibroid Centers, Lee-King doesn’t just share her past; she actively builds a more informed future. She hosts the monthly digital show ‘Talk About ‘U’, where she fosters open conversations about symptoms, diagnosis, and the latest treatment options, like uterine fibroid embolization.

Her advocacy also reaches into the halls of government. Lee-King is a vocal supporter of local legislative efforts—including those led by Prince George’s County Councilwoman Wala Blegay—to establish workplace protections for women dealing with severe fibroid symptoms.

The Power of Education

With fibroids affecting up to 80% of women before age 50, Lee-King’s work is a vital resource for the community. By combining her personal testimony with her role at USA Fibroid Centers, she is helping to strip away the stigma that prevents many from seeking life-saving care.
