The company was founded with the aim of providing effective and minimally invasive alternatives to hysterectomy for women suffering from symptomatic fibroids. We employ highly trained interventional radiologists in over 40 clinics across the United States including in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Georgia, Florida, Texas, Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia. At USA Fibroid Centers, our goal is to focus on patient needs, which is mirrored after the ideals of our founders, Dr. Flora and Dr. Yan Katsnelson.
Every year, close to 600,000 hysterectomies are performed to treat fibroids; however, many hysterectomies are considered medically unnecessary.¹ In the U.S., over 20 percent of women believe a hysterectomy is the only way to treat their fibroid symptoms.
Dr. Flora and Dr. Yan Katsnelson realized that many women with uterine fibroids thought surgery was the only treatment option. This realization influenced them to found USA Fibroid Centers in order to raise awareness about UFE and provide non-surgical treatment choices for individuals with fibroids.
Our story started with a passion to ensure women had options for uterine fibroids outside of invasive surgeries, such as myomectomy or hysterectomy. Hearing the stories of women suffering provided the fuel to launch an innovative outpatient center with multiple locations whose focus would solely be in UFE. What We Do
At USA Fibroid Centers, we provide the best in non-surgical fibroid treatment using Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE). This procedure is often also referred to as Uterine Artery Embolization. UFE is an FDA-approved treatment performed in our outpatient fibroid centers. UFE allows our patients to return home directly after the procedure and resume their daily activities between two to seven days following treatment. This makes UFE an ideal solution for busy individuals, caregivers, and those who want to avoid surgery.
During this simple treatment, one of our doctors will make a small incision in the upper thigh so that a catheter can be inserted. Using an ultrasound, the doctor will guide the catheter to the artery supplying blood to the fibroid. Then, small particles will flow through the catheter and block blood flow to the fibroid, causing it to shrink. After the procedure, you will be able to rest before going back to your home to finish your recovery.
