Raising awareness about fibroid disease was front and center at the Uterine Fibroid Awareness Luncheon held on May 22, 2021, in Atlanta, GA. The Fibroid Fighters’ event, sponsored by USA Fibroid Centers, drew over 70 attendees who participated in an open forum to discuss this disease that affects millions of women nationwide. The event is one of several taking place throughout the United States to engage in discussions with community leaders about the importance of women’s health and improved education and research for uterine fibroids.

USA Fibroid Centers Founder Dr. Yan Katsnelson emphasized in his keynote address the need for more physicians to be aware of minimally invasive options such as Uterine Fibroid Embolism (UFE). USA Fibroid Ambassador Shay Johnson was joined by fellow ambassadors Kym Lee and Erica Taylor. They each shared their personal experiences to encourage open conversations between women about fibroid disease and treatment.

Our Fibroid Ambassadors spearhead the Talk About “U” initiative, a series of discussions with fibroid survivors, activists, and doctors to help women learn more about fibroids and that effective, non-surgical treatment is available.

“Our goal is to help women understand they are never alone on their fibroid journey,” said Dr. Katsnelson. “We want to give them the information about fibroid symptoms and treatments to make the best decisions for their well-being.”

Guests helped amplify fibroid awareness by posting on social media during the brunch and discussion. Felicia Moore, who is the current president of the Atlanta City Council, talked about the importance of sharing fibroid experiences.

“I’ve been a fibroid fighter for a long time. I got a UFE procedure, and it probably saved my life,” the councilwoman said. “I’ll do what I can for other women to lift them up so they know that they don’t have to get a hysterectomy to treat fibroids.”

You can help become a Fibroid Fighter too. Help us connect with women and break the stigma around talking about fibroids and women’s reproductive health by following us on Instagram and social media. Share your fibroid story to empower other women to share their stories. The more women who know about managing fibroid disease can help make non-surgical treatments such as Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE) the treatment of choice.
