NORTHBROOK, IL. August 8, 2025 – USA Fibroid Centers will be hosting an Instagram Live stream, Talk About “U”, focusing on healthcare disparities in Black women, pregnancy, and fibroids. The live stream will be held on Thursday, August 14, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. EST on its page.
The live stream features host Kym Lee and special guest Thana Hickman, founder of Viola’s House, a nonprofit in Dallas, Texas, dedicated to supporting homeless teenage mothers.
The program will focus on the disproportionate impact of fibroids on Black women, the challenges women face with infertility due to uterine fibroids, pregnancy, and the importance of advocating for one’s own health.
According to research, Black women are three times more likely to develop fibroids than white women and often experience more severe symptoms, including heavy bleeding, pelvic pain, and infertility. Despite this increased prevalence, they are frequently misdiagnosed or face delays in receiving appropriate care. This conversation aims to empower women with knowledge and provide them with the information to look for equitable healthcare.

Thana Hickman will share her insights as a healthcare advocate working with young women and offer hands-on advice navigating the healthcare system and have better conversations with medical professionals. The Live will emphasize the importance of listening to your body and seeking second opinions when necessary.
