My Fibroid Journey
"EVEN ATHLETES GET FIBROIDS."
As a two-time champion of MTV’s The Challenge, I’ve spent years pushing my body to its limits. But one of my biggest challenges was happening inside my own body.
I discovered my fibroid unexpectedly during an ultrasound. By the time I was diagnosed, it had grown to 16 centimeters, and my belly looked about four months pregnant. I was experiencing bloating, pelvic pressure, frequent urination, and pain during intercourse.
When I learned about my fibroid, I also learned how important it is to understand all your treatment options. The initial treatment recommendation didn’t align with my priorities, especially my desire to preserve my fertility. I knew I needed to ask more questions and find another option.
That search led me to USA Fibroid Centers and Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE), a minimally invasive treatment that could treat my fibroid without major surgery.
Getting a second opinion changed the course of my fibroid journey—and it’s one of the biggest reasons I share my story today.
If something doesn’t feel right, listen to your body. Ask questions. Get a second opinion. And know your options.
Strength Starts With Listening to Your Body
“Being strong doesn’t mean ignoring pain or pushing through symptoms that are affecting your life.
I know what it means to challenge my body, train hard, and keep going. My fibroid journey taught me a different kind of strength: knowing when to stop, listen to my body, and advocate for my health.
If you’re experiencing persistent bloating, pelvic pain or pressure, frequent urination, heavy periods, or other changes that don’t feel normal, don’t simply push through them.
Your symptoms deserve answers.
Getting screened can help you understand what’s happening and learn what treatment options are available to you.
Why I Chose UFE
“I wanted an option that aligned with my priorities.” — Cara Maria Sorbello
When I sought a second opinion at USA Fibroid Centers, I learned about Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE).
UFE is a minimally invasive, image-guided procedure that treats fibroids by blocking their blood supply, causing them to shrink over time. For me, it offered an alternative to major surgery while preserving my uterus.
My journey didn’t end with the procedure. I documented my recovery at six months and again one year after UFE, sharing the changes I experienced in my pelvic pain, belly size, period, activity level, and overall confidence.
I want other women to know what I wish more women knew from the beginning:
Surgery may not be your only option.
Learn about UFE. Ask questions. Find out which treatment options may be right for you.
